About Associated Urologists of North Carolina

Associated Urologists of North Carolina represents the merger of five separate urological practices into one group. This new urological specialty group practice consists of five urology groups with 16 physicians that have served the North Carolina region through eight locations for many years.

Under this umbrella of board-certified urological surgeons, we have the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options for pediatric and male and female urology problems. By consolidating the expertise of these five groups with all its urological physicians, we now represent one of the largest urology specialty groups in the Carolinas. Our offices are conveniently located across the Research Triangle area of North Carolina and beyond, including Raleigh, Cary and Wake Forest, Clinton and Dunn. Our patients travel to us from across North and South Carolina and Virginia. Primary care physicians from across the Carolinas and Virginia have referred patients to our urological physicians for many years and we value the trust they place in us.

About urology and what we do

landmark urology

Urology is a branch of medicine concerned with the structure, function, and disorders of the urinary tract in both males and females.

Urology is thus concerned with the study of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra in members of both sexes, and with the testes, epididymis, prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and penis in males.

In their practice, AUNC urologists devote a great deal of time and energy to investigating and treating urological problems such as urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine), cystitis (bladder infection), urine retention, urinary tract infection, calculi (stones), and bladder tumors. In men, they also diagnose and treat problems related to the prostate gland, testes, and penis. In children, they evaluate and treat hydronephrosis, hypospadias, inguinal hernia, undescended testicles, urinary frequency and vesicoureteral reflux.

As diagnosticians, there are many tools available to them, including cystocopy where they use a special instrument to look inside the bladder and urethra, ultrasound scanning to image the prostate, bladder, and kidneys, and urodynamic testing to evaluate the cause of urinary problems, such as incontinence and obstruction. They offer comprehensive laboratory testing that includes semen analysis, urinalysis, and blood tests that measure PSA values and kidney function. AUNC work closely with one of the best pathology labs in the United States to offer state-of-the-art processing of prostate biopsy tissue. Skilled personnel offer patients biofeedback training to treat voiding dysfunction.

The AUNC providers at each of our five practice locations work together to offer our patients state-of-the-art urologic care.
