About Dr. Frank Tortora

Frank L. Tortora, MD, is a board-certified urologist at the Associated Urologists of North Carolina currently seeing patients at their Cary and Clayton offices. 

Dr. Tortora is a nationally renowned developer of emerging urological techniques and treatments. He has helped develop many medical and surgical techniques to aid the treatment of male sexual dysfunction and also specializes in robotic surgery, and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).

One of the pioneer procedures he performs in the office is UroLift®, a minimally invasive approach to treating an enlarged prostate that doesn’t require cutting, heating, or removal of prostate tissue.

Dr. Tortora’s nearly four-decade career began as an undergraduate student at Yale University, where he graduated cum laude. He earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Tortora completed an internship and residency at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, where he currently serves as a clinical associate professor in the departments of surgery and family practice.

Dr. Tortora is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American College of Urological Surgeons, and a member of the American Board of Urology. When he isn’t busy helping his patients, Dr. Tortora enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending time with his wife, children, and labrador retrievers.
