Hypospadias - FAQ
Overview | Diagnosis | Treatment | FAQ
Do all boys with hypospadias require surgery?
No, sometimes boys with very mild glanular hypospadias do not require hypospadias surgery.
What are problems that can occur after hypospadias surgery?
With any surgery, bleeding or infection can occur. Although uncommon, urethral stricture (narrowing) or fistula (extra opening) can occur after the surgery heals, and are sometimes not seen for years.
How about fertility problems?
The majority of boys with hypospadias will have normal fertility, as the abnormality is only at the most distal part of the urethra (at the nozzle). Very severe forms (proximal) are at a higher risk for fertility problems.
