Hydronephrosis refers to a condition where the drainage system of the kidney is dilated. This can be a common physiologic condition existing in newborns that resolves over time, or can be the result of obstruction (blockage) or ureteral reflux (backflow of urine into the kidney).  At the initial appointment, the pediatric urology team will discuss the specific degree of dilation existing within your child's kidney and determine the best plan for monitoring this dilation.
