Penile Adhesions

Penile adhesions are common and refer to the attachment of skin from the shaft of the penis over the glans (head of the penis), completely covering the coronal margin (ridge around the glans penis). The adhesions can appear like surrounding skin and often detach on their own as the child grows and develops, or they can appear like a band of tissue called a skin bridge.  Treatment depends on the type of tissue, the age of the child, and if the child is experiencing pain or other problems from the presence of this skin.  At your child's first appointment, we will do an exam and discuss options for future treatment. Sometimes no treatment is needed and we observe over time.
