About Dr. Emil Kheterpal

Experienced urologist Emil M. Kheterpal, MD, brings more than half a decade of experience in urologic oncology and robotic urology surgery to the Associated Urologists of North Carolina, practicing out of their Raleigh and Wake Forest locations.

Dr. Kheterpal began his professional education at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he earned his undergraduate degree and graduated summa cum laude. After graduation, Dr. Kheterpal moved to Massachusetts and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Boston University. The following year, Dr. Kheterpal completed a urology residency at Henry Ford Vattikuti Urology Institute, a world-renowned leader in robotics and robotic surgery in Detroit.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Kherterpal attended New York University in Greenwich Village, New York, to complete the Bruce Sherman fellowship in urologic oncology. There, Dr. Kherterpal was an early adopter of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate. Additionally, Dr. Kherterpal completed a brief fellowship at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute’s Center for Reconstructive Urology in Maharashtra, India. 

Dr. Kherterpal subsequently worked in a large health care system in New York as Director of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Urology Surgery. He later moved to North Carolina and joined the team at the Associated Urologists of North Carolina. 

Dr. Kherterpal specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and regularly uses two cutting-edge treatments — focal therapy and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) robotic surgery. Dr. Kherterpal loves spending one-on-one time with his patients and provides the highest quality of care based on the most recent literature.
