Waking Up Constantly at Night? Minimally Invasive Solutions for BPH

Waking Up Constantly at Night? Minimally Invasive Solutions for BPH

Do you wake up multiple times every night to use the bathroom? This disruptive symptom is incredibly common, but you don't have to live with exhausted mornings and broken sleep.

At Associated Urologists of North Carolina, Dr. Scott D. Baker, MD, and our team of specialists help men regain control of their nights. We provide advanced care for prostate issues across our convenient locations in Cary, Clayton, Dunn, Raleigh, and Wake Forest, North Carolina.

This frequent nighttime urination is often caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate. According to the National Institutes of Health (2025), BPH affects 50% to 75% of men aged 50 and older, and that number climbs to 80% by age 70.

Understanding BPH and your sleep

Why does an enlarged prostate keep you awake? As the prostate grows, it presses against the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine out of the body. This pressure makes it hard for your bladder to empty completely, leading to that constant, urgent need to go.

Many men worry that these symptoms are an early sign of prostate cancer. However, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (2024) clarifies that BPH is a completely benign condition that occurs naturally with age and does not lead to cancer.

Minimally invasive solutions for BPH

What are the best ways to treat BPH without major surgery? We offer highly effective medications and outpatient procedures that require minimal downtime and preserve your quality of life.

We offer Urolift for BPH, a procedure that uses tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way. This opens the urethra without cutting or heating prostate tissue, allowing you to return to normal activities quickly.

Another advanced option is the Rezum System for BPH. This treatment uses natural water vapor, or steam, to target and shrink the obstructive prostate tissue. As noted by the Mayo Clinic (2025), energy-based outpatient treatments like targeted steam efficiently reduce excess tissue with very short recovery times.

Take back your nights

How do you get started on finding relief? You don't have to accept sleep deprivation as a normal part of getting older. Our experienced urology team is here to evaluate your symptoms and help you choose the right path forward.

We'll work with you to find a treatment that fits your lifestyle and restores your peace of mind. If you're ready to sleep through the night again, contact our office to schedule a consultation at one of our North Carolina locations today.
